HOPSCOTCH 20/20 plans to send 13 French volunteers to Europe on various solidarity missions:

– Greece, Hellenic Youth Participation: social and intercultural dialogue, social inclusion
– Sweden, Hastekasen: environment and ecology
– Spain, Taller d’Art Cultura i Creacio: promoting art as a tool for social inclusion
The beneficiaries who will be identified on this project are young people with fewer opportunities that are going through a process of social and professional integration, as well as a personal reassessment period.
They encounter some difficulties to identify not only their needs, but also their expectations and desires, whether they are professional or personal ones. Our beneficiaries are young people with little or no qualifications, enrolled in a Local Mission or Job Seekers, followed by a social centre or integration structure (integration projects, PLIE, etc.). The vast majority of the young people we support who are starting a voluntary work come from priority districts of Marseille, Nice
and Grasse (South of France). Some of them have a criminal record, others have health problems that hinder their professional integration. Moreover, almost all of them do not speak English, which is another obstacle to their integration.
Overall, they need to build a professional experience that will have a real impact on their career path. Some of them are aiming to improve their English level , while others want to strengthen their professional, social, personal and transversal skills. Some are trapped in a situation of isolation and social exclusion. Therefore, a voluntary activity might allow them to step back, open up to others, get to know each other, since the others are in the same situation because they also need to define a professional project. Plus, for young people volunteering is a way of discovering certain sectors and fields of activities that they are interested in, even though they do not have any knowledge in the sector.
Our role is to make them aware that international mobility is an option even with few diplomas,experience or language levels and that they can give themselves some time to find their own personal and professional path. Our role is also to make them see that international mobility is a formative experience, which awakens several qualities that training and studies also seek to awaken and which are essential when looking for a job (patience, autonomy, curiosity, dynamism…).shift sheets, social networks and communication.
The project is written in consultation with the hosting partners: Eurosud (Italy), Hellenic Youth Participation (Greece), Hastekasen (Sweden) and Taller d’Art Cultura i Creacio (Spain). This allows us to identify at an early stage the roles and duties of each partner throughout the project. We define together the missions, and pay particular attention to the proposed reception conditions (accommodation, food arrangements, support and tutoring on the proposed missions, partnership with local associations and integration of young people into the community…). The terms of cooperation are defined in advance and will be formalised by the writing of an Activity Agreement.
The financial and management procedures for European subsidies are also defined beforehand and included in this document, signed by all (the sending and the hosting structures, as well as the volunteers). As the coordinating structure, Parcours le Monde – Sud Est, will ensure throughout the duration of the project, that the project framework is respected by all. The financial arrangements (management of the European grant, payment of funds to partners, etc.) will be managed jointly with the project manager and the Association’s Direction.
The project manager will remain in contact (phone, email, social networks) with the hosting partner during the duration of the activities. The supporting staff will also keep in touch with the volunteers, (phone, email, social networks) thanks to our monitoring tools. In the event of a crisis, management will be carried out in conjunction with the host partner in order to find the most appropriate solutions together. Parcours Le Monde – Sud Est carries out a skills assessment and a work of valorization of the experience with the volunteers, based on the internal tool “Livret d’Accompagnement”.
This partnership throughout the project allows us to ensure the quality of the project, and to offer volunteers quality missions and supervision. At the end of the project, an evaluation will be carried out by all partners. The volunteers’ comments and proposals will also be included in this assessment; this will make it possible to lay the foundations for future projects with our partner, with a view to continuing our joint projects.

En deux mois il a aquis plusieurs compétences dans le domain de la restauration, il a eu un aperçu des coutumes et façon de vivre (et manger) en Italie du sud, et gr
âce à cette expérience il s’est introduit dans le monde de la mobilité internationale et il a pu, aprés, s’éngager en Service Civique chez Parcours le Monde!Raconte-nous un peu ton parcours et pourquoi tu as décidé de partir en mobilité.
J’ai décidé de partir à travers le monde après une première année d’étude ratée. J’ai ressenti le besoin de voyager. Je suis dans un premier temps parti par mes propres moyens car je voulais sortir de ma bulle, puis j’ai découvert l’association Parcours le Monde qui propose de lier des missions de solidarité avec le voyage, ce qui
m’a immédiatement plu.
Quelles étaient tes missions principales au sein de ta structure d’accueil?
Mon projet était u
n peu spécial : j’aidais un restaurant au service du midi en tant que barista et serveur, je participais à plusieurs ateliers interculturels organisés par le restaurant ainsi qu’au buffet organisé pour certaines universités. Et j’aidais également une association qui crée des évènements autour du jeu de rôle.Quelle est la chose la plus surprenante qui te soit arrivée pendant ta mobilité? Est-ce que tu as vécu des chocs interculturels? Comment as-tu pu y faire face?
J’ai appris que dans le sud de l’Italie les banques ne donnent que des cartes de retrait (le sud de l’Italie est très pauvre). J’ai du passer pour un riche pendant deux mois. J’ai également pour rigoler coupé mes spaghetti la première fois qu’ils m’en ont servi au restaurant et assez surprenant je suis encore en vie. Sinon la chose la plus embetante est que toutes les boutiques ferment entre 14h30 et 17h, ce qui est compliqué si on veut visiter une ville un peu loin de chez soi et qu’on doit rentrer en transport en commun.
Qu’est ce qui te faisait peur et que tu as réussi à dépasser? Quel était ton plus grand défi ?
Je n’avais pas vraiment peur avant de partir car ce n’était pas mon premier voyage solo, mais mon plus grand défi était de réussir à comprendre l’italien en 2 mois car je ne parlais pas un mot d’italien à mon arrivée.
Qu’est-ce que tu as pu apprendre durant cette expérience? Qu’est ce qui a changé en toi? Peux-tu citer 3 compétences développées pendant cette expérience de mobilité ?
J’ai déjà commencé par apprendre à faire un vrai café ! Puis j’ai eu de la chance de participer à des repas chez des italiens et pu voir leur coutumes et ainsi énormément appris. L’adaptabilité, la confiance en soi, avoir plus de recul sur les choses.
En quoi penses-tu que ta participation à cette expérience peut t’aider dans ton avenir (professionnel ou personnel) ?
Sur le plan personnel, j’ai appris plein de choses et j’ai maintenant beaucoup d’histoires à raconter. Sur le plan professionnel, un gros avantage sur le monde de la restauration avec différentes méthodes de service.

personnelles et professionnelles ?
Je fais un Service Civique avec Parcours le Monde, j’ai envie de réaliser mes rêves.Cette expérience m’a donné beaucoup de confiance en moi.
